Our short sharp look at the week that was in round 6 of the Aviva Premiership with Will Greenwood but no Scotty who is still revelling in Claires Courts success at Allianz Park. Have a listen....
A short, sharp look at the weekend that was from week 5 in the Aviva Premiership with Will greenwood and the ESR team. Have a listen and tell us what you think....
ESR and Will Greenwood take a look at the weekend that was in round 4 of the Aviva Premiership. Have a listen and let us know what you think. Enjoy!
We are back once again from Will Greenwood's house, where we discuss the weekend that was in round 3 of the Aviva Premiership. Hope you enjoy it.
Will Greenwood, Crippo and Scotty discuss the week that was in round 2 of the Aviva Premiership 2017/18. As always the stats are on point. We think Will might have taken two breaths throughout.
Keen to hear your thoughts. Thanks for listening.
This week Will Greenwood joins Crippo to discuss round 1 in the Aviva Premiership. A short and sharp look on the games played and the standout performances. We all add our predictions for next week if you fancy a flutter! Happy listening.
What a win for the Lions!!! The boys are excited this week to talk all things Second Test. Tim is still gallivanting around Europe so back by popular demand is Chris "Crackers" Cracknell, and he opens with a big call...Sonny Bill Williams being sent off means it is the end of his ABs career. Talk about thrownig a grenade early. But it's those big calls that we at ESR love making. Other items we cover: Are the NZ media the biggest pack of dickheads in the World? Short answer yes. How good was Sean O'Brien? How good have the refs been the first two matches? And can the Lions now win the series? All that and more this week. Enjoy!
After a long time apart the boys are back together! Tim has returned from his adventures just in time to recap the first test and what a Test it was. The lads discuss what is possibly the best Lions try ever, Gatland's use of the bench, changes that need to be made for the Second Test and generally recap the match. The ABs looked nervous in the opening half and didn't really take control of the match until mid way through the second stanza when Te'o went off. Are they vunerable? In a word...no. We also discuss the futile exercise that is playing mind games with Steve Hansen via the media, the mid week match against the Highlanders, why Old Men commentators are annoying & Fiji's great win over Scotland. So grab yourself a cuppa and enjoy the bants.
So much to talk about this week as the Lions tour really starts warming up & there was a bumper weekend of International Rugby to get through too. This week Scotty & Crippo are joined by their good mate Chris "Crackers" Cracknell (Tim is off sunning himself in France). Chris made 146 appearances for the England 7s team & was on the coaching staff of the Fijian team that won the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He is an expert! Why he came on our podcast remains a mystery. The lads ramble about the Lions tour and debate if Gatland has devalued the Lions jersey with his ridiculous replacements. What does Joe Launchbury need to do to get a call up? Ben Teo is fast becoming a pod favourite, but the big question remains. Can the Lions beat the ABs...twice?!?! Enjoy the pod.
Due to popular demand (our 10 listeners), we have had to end our break early and do an impromptu pod this week. There is plenty to discuss too. The Lions have landed in NZ, unfortunately big Billy V has been ruled out of the tour and likely takes any hopes of a Lions win with him. The Aviva final series was brilliant! Kudos to Exeter for winning the GF. Tim was away at the time of recording, off running a marathon (what a supreme athlete). Reports are that he may or may not have shit himself whilst running the streets of Stockholm. We're sure he will tell all once he gets back. Fortunately friend of the pod Mick stepped in to join Simon & Scotty to fill the void. Will he let loose with an off the cuff rant???? You'll have to listen to find out. Enjoy the pod!
Well, one of us is feeling rather smug with himself for correctly picking Teo & Nowell in the squad. Because of this we let Scotty rant about spending his Sunday in a near new clothes outlet in London. Anyway, the Lions squad was announced & the exclusions provided more shocks than the inclusions. So the boys discuss the squad & how they think the tour will unfold. There is a Lions trivia question so get your thinking caps on (we reveal the answer at the end). The European Rugby semi finals & the upcoming England tour to Argentina are also discussed. It's going to be a great summer of rugby viewing for us in the Northern Hemisphere. Enjoy the pod!
We're back from our break, and boy did we need it! The Six Nations is over, Super Rugby has started, European Rugby is getting to the pointy end of the season & the Lions Squad announcement is only hours away. This week the boys whipped out their crystal balls and put together their own starting XV for the first test. If history & the current rumour mill tell us anything, they'll be lucky to pick one starter each. We also discuss the shambles that is Australian Rugby (we know our English & NZ listeners will enjoy that), and we also discuss how we think the All Blacks will get on against the Lions. As we all know they do struggle to find form at the best of times. Enjoy!
A sombre mood has struck the ESR Podcast HQ. 2 of the boys are a bit hungover & 1 of the boys needs to be within 5 feet of the toilet to ensure no "accidents" occur. This is what happens when you realise that the Six Nations are over for another year and the long countdown to the 2018 tournament begins (early prediction: France win it). We recap the weekends games, normally we go match by match but we are kind of all over the place this week. We discuss the farce that was scrumgate, we bag Italy for what was a very poor tournament in general & we all agree that England were never as good as the win streak suggested. Well the Aussie agreed with himself on that, Crippo & Scotty just let that slide on by. The focus eventually moves onto Lions watch. Attenborough would be proud! Thanks for your questions too by the way. Keep them coming. Enjoy!
Well they've done it. England have won the 6 Nations and have equalled the World record for most consecutive games won. Now excuse me whilst I go kill myself! Crippo is back from South Africa (and he is sporting a healthy glow) and he joins Scotty & I to discuss round 4. The big question that we sort of answer is: Scotland...what the hell happened??? We've been loving their style of play for the first 3 rounds and gave them a genuine chance of causing an upset at Twickers. Seems the occasion got the better of them. England on the other hand looked good, really good. Wales turned up full of beans and put in a solid 80 minute performance against what seemed like a flat Irish side. Both teams really went at each other & was great to see George North in full flight. France got the job done and look like they are building towards something special, but this year it is too little too late. Some Super Rugby, World Cup Pools of Death & some good spirited banter....enjoy!
Another round of the 6 Nations is in the books and I've gotta say this tournament is getting better & better! Crippo is sunning himself in South Africa so he couldn't join us for the pod this week (he hopes you are enjoying the pics he is sharing on the ESR Instagram page). Scotty & I review the 3rd round and what a round it was. "Ruckgate" dominates the discussion early. I'm convinced it's only a problem because it happened to England. If the Poms did it they'd be heralded as Rugby geniuses. Scotland ARE the team to beat. We picked them (and about 3 other teams) to be the dark horse favourites of the tournament & it seems that prediction is coming to fruition. Stuart Hogg is easily the best player in the tournament to date! A few lions predictions, a bit on Super Rugby (more on that in future pods) some bad movie analogies, a bit of banter & plenty of rugby chat, even try to hook Scotty up...ladies form an orderly queue! We are away next week due to the break. Enjoy the pod.
Round 2 is in the books & what a great weekend of Rugby it was! Wales got back to their form of old and were without a doubt the better team but the Rugby Gods really were not with them during the final moments of the match and the luckiest England team ever managed to steal yet another victory they did not deserve. Ireland put Italy to the sword as expected. Job done for the Irish but for Italy where do they go from here? A very brave Scotland fought hard til the very end against a French team that is regaining their attacking ability & are becoming a pleasure to watch again. Team of the week was very difficult to pick as so many players stepped up and were worthy of selection. I'm sure the calm, even tempered, well measured followers of ESR will no doubt agree 100% with all the choices. The tournament takes a break next week & so do we. See you in 2 weeks. Enjoy the pod. Cheers!
Well Round 1 is done & dusted. The blistering pace of the opening game got us all excited for the next 2 fixtures, unfortunately in our opinion they were both a bit of a let down. But we certainly are glad that the tournament is back & the old rivalries have been renewed. This weeks pod goes for an hour as the boys ramble their way through the weekends events. Lots of segways and we go down a couple of rabbit holes but we do manage to stay on track and deliver some champagne punditry (by champagne we mean a 2 quid bottle of fizzy cider from ALDI & by punditry we mean ill informed opinions). The Aussie blasts his "favourite" topic...the refs and their inconsistency, Scotty gives us his team of the week (largely we all agree) and Crippo is there to make up the numbers. Lucky for us no furniture gets damaged in the process. Bring on Round 2. Wales to beat England. Enjoy!
This week the boys give their predictions on the overall standings for the 2017 Six Nations and the players to watch. Apparently Tim lives in the poshest estate in England, so Crippo (fighting for the working man) takes it upon himself to destroy Tim's furniture. These pods clearly bring the emotions to the surface. In all seriousness we are pumped for the tournament to begin. There are going to be some great games in the opening weekend & the rivalries really do make picking the winners difficult. Good luck to your team, remember it is just a game & that Rugby is all about respect for the players and each other. Anyone but England!
This week the boys ramble (and I really do mean ramble) about the chances the Irish & the English have in this years 6 Nations. We all agree that the likely winner of the tournament will come from one of these 2 teams. They meet in the final game which will hopefully also double as the tournament decider. The boys get off topic A LOT with the Aussie being the one to continually bring the conversation back to English Rugby. Clearly suffering from Stockholm syndrome, culminating in the end with him walking directly into some top quality banter! The good people at www.beer52.com continue the great offer for podcast listeners. All the details are in the pod. Enjoy!
We move to the continent this week to mull over the chances of Italy & France in this years 6 Nations. Italy are building towards something and have a somewhat decent draw. Could they win 3 matches? Conor O'Shea has made some high impact changes to the squad, mainly to the amount of red wine the players drink and how many pizzas they put away in between matches. Will the new low carb high intensity approach pay off for the Italians? The French on the otherhand, well who knows? They've got talent to burn yet as the saying goes it all depends on which French team shows up. We are thinking a strong one and hopefully one that wants to attack. Fitness has been a focal point for Guy Noves post the Autumn series lets hope they haven't left out attacking skills training. We are also giving away cheap beer!!! How can you not take a listen?! Enjoy.
We're back!!! Happy New Year. Our new years resolution was to be more professional, let us know when you think we broke that one. The 6 Nations is less than a month away so over the next couple of weeks we are going to be focusing on previewing the teams & their chances. This week we discuss the Scottish & the Welsh and how we think they will get on. It really is time for Scotland to step up and stop being the bridesmaid and Wales really need to do something about their lack of try scoring ability. We also discuss (with seamless segwaying) Cranberry cheese, the Cockerill sacking and more high tackles. What's not to love?! We hope the God's of Rugby bring your team all the wins they deserve in 2017. Enjoy!
WARNING - You're about to hear some very bad impersonations of an Australian accent. Unfortunately the best way to do an Australian accent is to swear...A LOT! So there is a warning for language too. Scotty & Crippo are hurting from their pub crawl on the Bermondsey Mile. So this weeks pod has a bit of a subdued tone, the segways aren't seamless, there are plenty of concentration lapses. You'd reckon they'd never had a beer before. We do manage to talk about some Rugby stuff, most noteably the great weekend of performances & results from the PRO12 teams. Who called them a pub league?! Enjoy the pod.
Is Mike Brown as tough as he thinks he is? Has Dan Cole ever seen a scrum he didn't want to collapse? Are there any decent refs left in the game? Has Rugby gone soft? Is Sekope Kefu the best Fly Half in Australia? Did England really beat Australia 4 times this year or is the Swagman having a nightmare? Is this the last pod for the year & what is with all that moaning in the background? All the answers to these questions and more on this weeks pod. Enjoy!
It's been a big 2 weeks on the Rugby front & an even bigger two weeks for the Swagmans liver. The boys had a lot to catch up on and plenty has happened! Ireland continue on their giant killing ways by beating the Wallabies. The Aussie was there & he wasn't happy. England continue their streak with a strong performance over the most well travelled team in Rugby history. More cards were handing out this week than at a poker tournament in Vegas & Scotty has stats coming out his ears. All that and more, it's a bumper pod this week! Sit back, relax, dim the lights & enjoy!
Week 2 in the 2016 Autumn Internationals has come & gone. The boys ramble on about England carrying on their good form from the 6 Nations and June tour to Australia with a strong win over a struggling South African outfit, that quite honestly look a shambles. The Aussies broke Scottish hearts yet again and are building nicely towards a Grand Slam. Wales won ugly over Argentina but have shown they still have lots to work on, whilst Argentina look jetlagged. Pretty sure they made a movie about the Argentinian Rugby Team. Tom Hanks starred in it. Was called The Terminal. Tom does look a lot like Nico Sanchez. The occasional yelp you hear is the Swagman cheering on the Aussies as they thump the Poms in the League. Sorry, he does get a little excited whenever any Aussie team are playing. Enjoy!
The boys discuss what was the best opening weekend to the Autumn Internationals ever. The Irish have finally broken the drought against New Zealand with a brilliant win. Noticeable for his absence was Nigel Owens. The All Blacks have already written to World Rugby demanding it be mandatory that he refs all of their games going forward. Wallabies were ugly but effective against a very poor Welsh team. Go back to the valleys lads. Scotty & Crippo have found a new watering hole near Wembley. Petition to the RFU to play all England fixtures at Wembley is now in the works. Stay tuned and find out how you can win some merch by answering a question that has us all stumped. To be honest we couldn't be bothered looking it up ourselves. Enjoy!
This week the lads ramble about game 3 of the Bledisloe Cup & what was the worst decision ever seen on a Rugby field. Why does Nigel Owens and Shaun Veldsmen hate Australia so much & love NZ? We talk all things European Rugby and the state of the pitches in France. We know they like to use their land to grow grapes but this is ridiculous! Oh yeah, be sure to listen all the way to the end to find out how you can win tickets to the Barbarians/South Africa match at Wembley on November 5th. You may even be sitting with the boys! Good luck & enjoy the pod.
The Godfather, Swagman & Scotty H cover a wide range of topics in this weeks pod. It has been a while since we've all been together and plenty has gone on in the world of Rugby both on & off the field. The Rugby Championship is over for another year. European Rugby is back, the Autumn Internationals are just around the corner and Australia thumped the Kiwis in the opening game of the Rugby League Four Nations (but I'm sure you already knew that). Plenty to talk about. Question: If you get an OBE can you herd cattle across Tower Bridge? The answer can be found in the pod. Enjoy!
Today we were lucky enough to get time with Australian Wallaby & Melbourne Rebels stand out player Reece Hodge. The Wallabies are in London to face Argentina at Twickenham tomorrow in the final game of the 2016 Rugby Championship. Reece was kind enough to give us some of his time to answer our & our followers questions. It has been a break through year for Reece, bursting onto the scene for the Rebels in this seasons Super Rugby campaign and forcing his way into the National team with his hard nosed approach to the game, never taking a backward step. He is a favourite of ours here at Eat Sleep Rugby.
The Godfather & the Swagman are back together after their week apart. They're in Cornwall at the Shipwright Arms Helford River (well spotted Charlie Walker) talking all things Rugby. It was a huge week in the Premiership with plenty of upsets, Maro got his first L in a very long time, Bristol are finding the going pretty tough at the top, Chris Ashton won the award for best Mike Tyson impersonation & the Rugby Championship is back. Some might say there is a "plethora" of Rugby going on at the minute. Enjoy!
Everyone has abandoned the Swagman this week so we thought we'd give him a shot at doing the pod solo. We did put strict rules on him though. Keep it short, don't talk about the refs and don't spend the whole time talking about the Wallabies. Fingers crossed he listened to us. In other news, only another 1095 days til the next World Cup. Start saving those pennies now! Domo Arigato Mister Roboto.
With so much to talk about this week there's no time for the intro music or editing. We are straight into it. We think it adds a certain rustic charm. We'll let you be the judge. The @jollyswagman340 & the Godfather are joined by their good mate Scotty H at Maidenhead Rugby Club. England Coach Eddie Jones was on hand to watch the lads record the pod but he was too shy to get involved. The Wallabies finally get a win, are Argentina playing the most attractive rugby on the planet right now and who in the local competitions are putting their hands up for 6 Nations selection. Enjoy!
It's been a tough couple of weeks for the Aussies, so we welcome back the Jolly Swagman back from his travels with open arms to discuss all the gory details. The Godfather wasn't available this week, as he was too busy being an actual father.
We've moved briefly from the usual Wednesday in order to get this out while it's a fresh as possible. Our Review of the successful Fijian and Australian campaigns in the Rio Olympics rugby competitions.
The EatSleepRugby team give a lighthearted preview of Rugby 7s Olympic debut in Rio. We are honoured to be joined by Martin Iosefo who gives us a behind the scenes look at the Team USA camp. We also look at why it took the IOC 92 years to invite us back to the party after some embarrassing organisation during the previous attempts to include 15 a-side Rugby in the early days. Enjoy!
@jollyswagman and the Godfather appeared as guests on Talk Radio 2 this week, leaving @funontheshore to help his in-laws move house. We look at England's win in Australia, try to ignore Wales's Loss in NZ, and dispense invaluable information regarding the Zika Virus.
For Welshmen everywhere and (@funonthesore in particular) this is a week to discuss football and not Rugby. However the Godfather and @jollyswagman340 pull him back towards the main subject matter. England's series victory in Australia dominates the headlines and our tame Aussie has a few things to say on the matter. Is he a good loser? You decide.
The Northern Hemisphere made a bit of a comeback this weekend, we look at the test matches, the Welsh Midweek catastrophe against the Chiefs, the fallout from the Godfather's porn story and we hear just how upset a drunk Aussie sounds after defeat.
This week was all about the build up to the weekend's tests, who will win the match between New Zealand and Wales (pssst... its New Zealand), and who will win the 'Battle of the Onesie' between the Godfather and the Jolly Swagman? Is Danny Cipriani better off touring a country where leaving your hotel to find a nightclub could mean certain death?
@funontheshre is racing off on holiday today, so here is an unedited episode which is up a day early this week from the Godfather and @jollyswagman340. Hopefully the Podcast TMO won't need to get involved via Skype from abroad! Enjoy!
The EatSleepRugby podcast has expanded with the return of @jollyswagman340 to these shores. We discuss a whole range of rugby based news, from Jarryd Hayne, to the number of condoms supplied to Olympic athletes in Sydney 2000 and how this is changing the aspirations of professional Rugby players across the planet.
@jollyswagman340 has been banned by the TMO for a week and so will be back next week, in his place to join @funontheshore is the Godfather of EatSleepRugby. They discuss Jake Ball's impressive gash and a host of other stuff including joining the campaign to make Simon Bevan of Burry Port RFC the most famous player on the planet.
Will Greenwood and recently re-retired Andy Goode join us for our latest podcast...plus we discuss latest citings, Euro Semi-Final poor attendance, our own punditry skills, Castrogiovanni's trip to Vegas and the curious case of the 8 try thriller that never was.
'Pint sized' George Gregan was one of the leading scrum halves in the 1990's famed for the length of his ..... pass, and thus deserves a mention for his birthday. Liam Gill's drop goal, @Funontheshore's feeble attempt at gambling and the rise of Women's 7s rugby as a brilliant spectacle fill the rest of this week's podcast.
